Ping Identity has been recognized as a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant for Access Management™ for the sixth consecutive year! This report talks about various offerings along with strengths and cautions that Ping is able to offer to customers.

In the 2022 report, Ping Identity is recognized as a Leader based on its ability to execute, and completeness of vision. We feel The PingOne Cloud Platform demonstrates its product strategy, innovation, and execution in the market which helped us to get recognized in the Gartner Magic Quadrant.

Key components of the PingOne Cloud Platform include no/low-code orchestration, risk and fraud prevention, hybrid and multi-cloud support, and high capability rankings.

What Gartner Considered When Recognizing and Positioning Vendors

The 2022 Magic Quadrant for Access Management has expanded beyond traditional access management. It focuses on “transformational technologies or approaches delivering on the future needs of end users,” according to Gartner. Gartner has highlighted a multitude of use cases, including those for workforce whether that is employees, contractors, or temporary workers, as well as for external users, including consumers, partners, and citizens. Use cases in the external users category are often referred to as customer identity and access management (CIAM).

In this year’s report, Gartner added extra emphasis on orchestration by calling out new orchestration capabilities. Gartner specifically added the bullets below to their access management market definition in this year’s report:

Other low-/no-code interfaces for building complex, dynamic authentication, and fine-grained authorization flows
Journey-time orchestration in the context of access management
Machine identity management
Advanced life cycle management capabilities
Progressive profiling

Why Ping is a Leader

Gartner positions vendors in this report based on their completeness of vision (which assesses things like strategy, business model, market understanding, and innovation) and their ability to execute (based on things like pricing, current offering, and operations). Ping is positioned as a Leader in this report. Also, we are the furthest to the right on the “completeness of vision” axis.

Orchestration

As mentioned above, Gartner added new low/no-code and orchestration callouts to their market definition. Ping’s approach to orchestration is unique in that we are completely vendor agnostic, even providing OOTB connectors to competitors. We often say anti-lock-in and that’s exactly what we mean to achieve with our orchestration service.

Meeting the Needs of Large Enterprises

Let’s face it, large enterprises have big user populations, massive scale requirements, and complex use cases that often span multiple clouds and on premises environments.

Requirements like this are a reality for many businesses. Unfortunately, more complex use cases can often hide below the surface with initial vendor engagements—even for commercial or mid-market businesses—and go undiscovered until IAM implementations are well underway. Not with Ping. Ping excels at handling the toughest use cases out there. Innovation

The PingOne Cloud Platform delivers a plethora of capabilities in the IAM realm. Some of these capabilities are not present in many other IAM vendors. Ping’s capabilities include risk and fraud detection, identity proofing, orchestration, fine-grained authorization, adaptive access, and API access control. Gartner evaluated these and other features when naming Ping a Visionary Leader in the Magic Quadrant™ for Access Management

Ping has strategically invested in these capabilities. Each one has a specific role to play in servicing the identity needs of today and tomorrow. See below for a quick overview from Ping’s perspective on capabilities:

Fraud Detection	Ping’s fraud detection capabilities combine real-time behavioral navigation, behavioral biometrics, device attributes, network attributes and much more to detect sophisticated fraud attacks that bypass other detection tools—all while making user experiences seamless. Ping was an early innovator among identity providers in the fraud detection space, and leverages orchestration to allow businesses to combine Ping’s fraud detection capabilities with others they already have.
Decentralized Identity	Decentralized Identity (DCI) is the concept that users control their identity information, putting the emphasis on privacy and trust. It helps with decentralized identity, users are able to store verified personal information [about themselves] such as name, age, address, credit scores, and more from issuers such as the Government, financial institutions, or an employer in a digital wallet. They can then choose who to share their identity with, and what pieces of identification are needed for identity verification (using PingOne Verify) to ensure users are who they say they are. This is an early technology but more and more businesses are seeing the benefits of DCI solutions—such as simplifying how they meet regulatory requirements, streamlining user experience, and getting instant access to verified user data—and they looking to established leaders like Ping for solutions.
Fine-Grained Authorization (Dynamic authorization)	Dynamic authorization—sometimes called attribute-based access control (ABAC) or externalized authorization management (EAM)—gives businesses control over who has access to what data and actions in their SaaS, mobile, web and enterprise applications. This enables one centralized place to manage fine-grained access control for all apps that uses real-time context about users and the resource they are accessing.
Adaptive Authentication	Ping leverages adaptive authentication to make signing-in smarter. It uses behind-the-scenes signals users, networks, devices, and more to determine how risky authentication events are and assign a risk score. From there, administrators can develop policies to add friction (like MFA) in riskier situations and remove friction in safer situations. Ping has led the way with robust adaptive authentication for years and continues to lead in the category.
API Access Control	Ping provides web/API access security that centralizes access control with a policy-driven security layer for all web and mobile apps plus APIs, so businesses can make sure only the right people gain access to the right resources.
Orchestration	Low/no-code orchestration lets administrators design user journeys by integrating all of Ping services (including the ones listed in this section) and other third-party services. Ping innovates the category by taking an anti-lock-in approach by providing out-of-the-box integrations to hundreds of third-party services businesses already use, including Ping competitors. With Ping, there is simply no lock-in.
